The poem moves from grief and compromise through doubt toward an exacting final command to the poet.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"poem\">\n<h2>The Mastery of Rhyme<\/h2>\n<div class=\"dr-poem-text\">\n<p>A decadent and renegade,<br \/>A fool whose life has just begun,<br \/>I am a Jack of every trade,<br \/>And quite a master, too, of one.<br \/>Its name is rhyme; its time is brief;<br \/>Its reach is far; its touch is deep.<br \/>It may release the heart from grief<br \/>But to condemn the soul to weep.<\/p>\n<p>Rhyme is a strong aperitif<br \/>Which no impostor can afford.<br \/>Each compromise you do forgive<br \/>Comes back and hits you like a sword.<br \/>There lies your conscience, cut and slain,<br \/>And in a string of scarlet drops<br \/>You jot apologies again<br \/>Until, at last, the bleeding stops.<\/p>\n<p>Each time pride launches the attack<br \/>While modesty assistance brings<br \/>And courage, as behind your back<br \/>You hear the fluttering of wings.<br \/>You&#8217;ve undergone a major stress,<br \/>And yet, the pain will not decline<br \/>Now that you venture to express<br \/>In words the hellish and divine.<\/p>\n<p>The pressure&#8217;s getting quite extreme,<br \/>There&#8217;s hardly room to up the stake.<br \/>You jump around from dream to dream,<br \/>Not knowing where you will awake.<br \/>But, as the vagaries condense<br \/>Around a single striking plot,<br \/>The muse extracts a finer lens<br \/>And finds a fatal flaw to spot!<\/p>\n<p>The spark of heavy doubt may flash<br \/>Within, uneasy to discard:<br \/>We\u2019ll cease for good, and we\u2019ll be ash,<br \/>Why should we even try so hard?<br \/>Your labor could be lighter, true,<br \/>Yet you will reap but what you sow.<br \/>Remember: all we carry through<br \/>God can imagine better, so<\/p>\n<p>Refine your taste, remain alert<br \/>And never scorn the perfect rhyme:<br \/>Such is the science to avert<br \/>A waste of literary time.<br \/>Well-done, my friend.
